The GSI Caravan is an (approximately) three-years-long international research project composed of three distinct phases: GSI Overseas Caravan Practice, GSI International Academic Convention and Publication of GSI Book Series in English. Its purpose is to disseminate original and cutting-edge research in the humanities and social sciences at the University of Tokyo to a global range of international audiences. The GSI Caravan is also aimed at expanding the worldwide research network of the University as well as fostering its global education.

Research
GSI promotes two categories of academic work to advance the frontiers of the humanities and social sciences. One is the GSI Caravan and the other research activities centered around the Institute for Advanced Global Studies (IAGS). GSI also collaborates with the East Asian Academy for New Liberal Arts (EAA), the East Asia Liberal Arts Initiative (EALAI), and other key innovative projects at the University of Tokyo.
Institute for Advanced Global Studies (IAGS)
The Institute for Advanced Global Studies (IAGS) was established in 2010 as an affiliate of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. It serves as the umbrella organization for the 10 research centers covering a wide range of the world’s regions as listed below. Together, they work to address global problems confronting human society today.
