Center for South Asian Studies (TINDAS)

TINDAS:Integrated Area Studies on South Asia at The University of Tokyo

About Center

The Center for South Asian Studies was established within the Institute of Advanced Global Studies (IAGS) in April 2017 to serve as the University of Tokyo hub for the Integrated Area Studies on South Asia. At TINDAS, researchers in South Asian studies from inside and outside Japan gather to pursue studies on the economic development and historical changes of the region. By positioning the current economic development of the region, centered on India, within the long-term context of historical changes, TINDAS aims to comprehensively understand the South Asian path of development. TINDAS also collects relevant historical materials and statistical data and works to develop and sustain its GIS data and “India Place Finder” search services.
