The University of Tokyo Centre for Middle Eastern Studies (UTCMES)

The University of Tokyo Centre for Middle Eastern Studies (UTCMES) is one of the centers in the Institute of Advanced Global Studies (IAGS) of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. Established with the objectives of promoting greater understanding of the Middle East and friendship with the region through academic and cultural exchange, UTCMES is also responsible for oversight of the Sultan Qaboos Chair of Middle Eastern Studies, a Sponsored Program funded by the Sultanate of Oman. UTCMES carries out and disseminates high-quality research on the Middle East with a global perspective and promotes academic exchange with the region. The outcome of the pioneering research carried out at UTCMES is reflected in its educational activities so as to foster future generations who will have an accurate and unbiased understanding of the Middle East.
